Girls Behind the Gun

Girls Behind the Gun

Women have been working in male dominant industries for years, and the collision industry is no exception. Today women are moving to the forefront as some of the most respected and top performing technicians in our industry. Connie Manjavinos, head painter for a restoration shop in Jensen Beach, FL, is one of these leaders.

Seven years ago, Connie started out in the detailing department, sanding and buffing.  During her time in the shop, she fell in love with painting and worked her way into the paint shop. Since then, Connie has proved herself to be a truly passionate technician, leading the way and inspiring other women to follow. With the goal of connecting to other females in the collision industry, she created an outlet on social media: Girls Behind the Gun.

Girls Behind the Gun is a place of appreciation for all women in the refinishing and autobody industry. Connie has connected with thousands of other female refinishers and technicians. Women from all over the world can talk and share tips, tricks, and techniques while ultimately networking and celebrating each other on Girls Behind the Gun. The movement started in February 2015 and has already reached an impressive 17,000 followers.

Connie has been recognized nationally and participated and succeeded in many events within the industry including 3M’S PPS World Cup. She received 2nd place in last year’s SATA Gun Design Competition for SEMA, which is now in production and will be available following SEMA this year. She also participated in the All-Female Build “Chevy Montage” from Bogi’s Garage that was unveiled at SEMA this year.

Connie’s passion for painting is truly contagious. Her goal is to eventually work with high school students wanting to venture into the industry. She hopes to have the opportunity to coach them down a path for success.

Looking to the future, Connie hopes the female technician network continues to grow and promote opportunity for women in the industry.
