Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained from battle, and it is our most solemn national holiday.  The observance of this day was born of compassion in 1863. As the Civil War raged, grieving mothers, wives, sisters and daughters laid flowers on the graves of both Confederate and then Union soldiers.

We celebrate our way of life with family and friends, planting flags at cemeteries and for many of us, taking a private moment to snap a crisp salute and shed a tear for a fallen comrade. This Day speaks of personal sacrifice, immense personal courage, and a sense of duty for a greater, common good.  Ordinary Americans, since the battle of Lexington and Concord, have fallen to preserve our Freedom.

Memorial Day is a time for reflection, and respect. FinishMaster honors the men and women who gave their lives serving the United States of America. We pay homage to their willingness to sacrifice themselves for love of country; they have given so much in service to our nation. We honor the memory of the fallen by living out, in our core values,  the principles and ideals for which these brave and forever loved Americans gave their lives.

Unlike other occasions when the American Flag is flown at half mast, proper protocol for flying your flag on Memorial Day is to fly it at half-staff from sunrise to noon, and then raise it quickly to full staff.

The White House Commission on Remembrance, established by Congress in 2000, encourages all Americans to remember those who paid the ultimate price in service to our nation. On Memorial Day at 3PM (your local time), please join the FinishMaster family and take a moment and observe the National Moment of Remembrance by pausing for 60 seconds to remember the men and women who fought and died while serving our country.

It is indeed a dangerous world that our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coastguardsmen serve in. In deference to the men and women who served and died in war, remember and thank a veteran this weekend. As these brave individuals are celebrated during backyard celebrations and patriotic events, pay homage to the fallen and honor them.
